Casino Pools Open To Locals - Chisme Calientito

Free casino/resort pool access for locals?

Years ago some resorts allowed free access to their pools with local I.D. Does anyone know if there are still places doing this? I've also heard that some resorts will charge a fee for a single day's access but it's in the $20 range. Info about this is hard to find online as searches bring up articles that are years outdated.

Statements by Premier Kenney
Opening Statements
  • Pandemic is "once in a century" event that has affected everyone
  • Has received lots of heartbreaking/heartfelt letters and read some out of them in the meeting last night
  • Letters include concerns about family impacts and economic impacts, as well as the loss of life
  • Has phoned front line healthcare workers over weekend and sought out their advice
  • Has noted the hesitation of further restrictions before and focus on targeted measures. The vast majority of Albertans have worked to the guidelines
  • Spread is speeding up and is significant at long term care. We need to do "everything we can" to protect them. That requires dedicated work from the community
  • Must also protect healthcare system. Healthcare system is at risk, and Edmonton Zone is an example of the trade offs that now must be made. Other services will have to be put on hold if the trend continues, even with the spending in it
  • Measures below were not taken lightly. These are the "minimum restrictions needed" right now to protect healthcare system and avoiding widespread damage to livelihoods
New Measures
  • Declaring a State of Public Health Emergency in the province of Alberta
  • Series of mandatory measures also approved:
  • For social gatherings: No indoor social gatherings will be permitted in any setting and outdoor social gatherings will have a limit of 10 people
  • For funerals and weddings: 10 in-person limit and no receptions will be permitted
  • Social events have been one of the biggest driver of cases. Weddings and funerals are one of the biggest widespread drivers of transmission ("This is just a reality")
  • These social gathering restrictions are province-wide and can be subjected to fines
  • An emergency alert will be sent to all Alberta phones this week to make Albertans aware
  • Gatherings of worship services will be capped of 1/3 of Fire Code with mandatory masking if region is under enhanced status. This is now mandatory. This will be evaluated mid-December
  • Effective Friday, for regions under enhanced status, three temporary restrictions will be added at businesses and services:
  • (1) The following will be closed: banquet halls, conference centres, trade shows, concert venues, community centres. All levels of sport too, but must apply and have an approved exemption
  • (2) Retail businesses and services will be limited to 25% of occupancy limit
  • (3) Hair salons, personal wellness services, hotels, and professional services will be limited by-appointment
  • In-person dining and bars can continue, but must abide by guideline. Each dining tables will be limited to 1 household
  • Asking all workers that can work from home to do so. Government of Alberta will do so
  • These will be reviewed in mid-December
  • On November 30th, Grades 7-12 will end in-person schooling for 2020 and Winter break will begin December 18. In-person learning will be delayed until January 11, 2021
Closing Statements
  • Effective immediately, masks are mandatory in Edmonton and Calgary Zone
  • The measures are tough, but necessary to protect Albertans from a "crushing lockdown"
  • Knows this will be hard and encourages people to shop local
  • Will give a chance to review before Christmas
  • If the measures do not have meaningful impact, further restrictions will be made in December
Q&A - Announced Restrictions
  • Alberta has had some of the least stringent measures and highest cases rates. Is today's announcement that it failed? Why are we doing the "minimum"?: Thinks the response has been effective for a long stretch of time. Obviously an issue has cropped up in the past few weeks. Also notes a "chase after 0 [cases]" shutdown won't be the goal and that restrictions and interventions, in accordance with Charter of Rights, should be limited to minimizing infringement of rights to achieve a goal
  • How will you enforce gathering restrictions?: No "snitch line", but will be expanding enforcement officers (Level 1 and 2 peace officers) to enforce orders and writing the tickets (up to $1,000/person). Anticipates officers will see if obvious "large gathering signs" will be noticed
  • How is in-person dining not "indoor gatherings"? How do you feel about doctors recommending closing in-person dining?: Notes dining is one household and limited spread in dining centres and asks those with a secure paycheck ("particularly a government paycheck") to think about those who sink life savings in dining services
  • Why are stores being restricted if they are not a significant cause of spread?: Compares well to other provinces who have fully closed retail. Thinks it was a grave mistake to allow big box stores to remain open because they had grocery/pharmaceutical sections while small businesses must close. That said, restrictions must be made to limit social spread
  • Due to challenges with Albertan spread information, what data is being used to make the decisions?: Points to data from previous 8 months
  • Are you confident that these measures will control cases by December 15?: Yes. Notes the challenging balance between infringement of rights and controlling cases. Also hopes this will be a "wake up call" to those not following the guidelines
  • (Interjection - I felt this was important and it needs to be separated from the above question). Kenney recognizes he will get quite a few people "on [his] Facebook page" angry at the restrictions. Wants to emphasize this is not a lockdown. Nor is this an abstraction. If you know someone waiting for surgery, this is to protect them. It's not about politics, but for them. It's not something he wants to do and is upset about the situation. But it's not enough to complain. Challenges people to explain how to grapple with timely healthcare access if Covid continues to spread and more need care
Q&A - Future Restrictions
  • How bad will it have to be to announce a lockdown?: Would like to avoid it if possible. Key metric will be hospitalization (in particular, ICU), measured against capacity. (Interjection - The wording of the rest of the response was focused on more targeted measures if these restrictions do not limit spread within 3 weeks)
  • Are there specific thresholds for lift measures/add more measures?: On 15th of December, reproductive value (R) must be <1 to lift measures. Ideal target is 0.80. We are currently at 1.3 in Edmonton, 1.1 in Calgary
Q&A - Other
  • Where is Alberta when it comes to vaccine and rapid testing?: Alberta depends on the federal government. Notes disappointment in the slow roll out of rapid testing (though 577,000 tests have been delivered). Hopes to announce more roll out details in the week. For vaccine, Oxford trial has also headed to mass production (giving Canada 3 incoming vaccines). When it arrives, will likely begin with healthcare workers and vulnerable populations
Statements by Minister Shandro
Further details on the above guideline
  • Indoor social contact should be limited to you household. If you live alone, you may have two non-household social contacts
  • Indoor social gathering gatherings doesn't apply to home based services
  • Funeral/wedding gathering limits can result in $1,000 fine, up to $100,000 through courts
  • Additional details for restaurants/bars/pubs/lounges: Must follow 4 points: (1) 6 person/table limit, all from one household, (2) same note as above for single person household (and limited to the same two people), (3) only seated eating/drinking allowed, (4) no other services are allowed (e.g. billiards/darts)
  • Encourages takeout/delivery/curbside pick up when possible
  • Enhanced screening of measures will begin
  • Retail services extends to bingo halls, fitness, pools, etc. No group fitness is allowed, nor team practice or games
  • Casinos can be open for slots only and follow the liquor laws of bars and casinos
  • 25% limit includes grocery, pharmacies, clothing, computer, hardware, automotive stores, etc
  • Doctors can continue in-person care
  • Diploma exams will be optional - parents may choose to seek an exemption
AHS Capacity
  • Working with AHS to expand capacity
  • Commits that AHS will have all the resources needed to respond
  • But AHS also needs people to change their behaviour
Statements by Dr Hinshaw
Numbers
  • Dip in case number was due to fewer tests
  • Active Alerts/Outbreaks (1+ active cases) in 318 schools (~13%), with 1,135 cases. 181 schools with outbreaks (2+ active) with 65 on watch list (5+)
  • 103 deaths in last 2 weeks. Of them, 62 were in continuing care and 12 in acute care. Of the 29 community deaths, 14 were <70 years old

When we were kids, my little brother died on Halloween. He's come back to visit me every year since his death.

Jimmy returned for the first time exactly one year after the accident. I was home alone. Dad was at the bar and Mom was dead. We’d crammed her into a pine box and shipped her off to the incinerator months ago.
I’d been sitting on the couch watching a plump cockroach scuttle across the coffee table, sipping whiskey that I’d liberated the previous night after Dad passed out. I wasn’t quite drunk yet. At eleven years old, my tolerance to alcohol was comparable to most local stumblebum drunks.
A knock came to the door, the gentle tap of brittle knuckles upon rotted wood. I paused with the rim of the bottle resting against my lips. Even the cockroach cocked its long antennae curiously toward the door.
The local trick-or-treaters knew better than to come here seeking candy. Our ramshackle abode was always one DHS visit away from being condemned, and the cobwebs and sundry creepy-crawlies in our front windows certainly weren’t decorative.
I reflexively choked out a sob when I opened the door and saw his ghostly form. The sheet draped over him was stained brown and soaked with stinking river water.
“Jimmy?” I asked, my voice croaking in disbelief.
As if to answer me, his jaw fell slack and I heard the tiniest groan emerge from under that sheet, like a whining door hinge in a quiet house. He raised his hand to me and I shrank back in fear, expecting him to thrust an accusatory finger and damn me as a liar and murderer. Instead, I realized that he was holding his hand open, expecting something. A dry, throaty sound whistled up from his slackened jaw and I suddenly understood what he wanted.
My little brother had come back for his favorite holiday.
I rushed up to my bedroom, reached under my bed, and grabbed Jimmy’s pumpkin-shaped Halloween bucket. I flicked off the roaches and shook out mouse shit then ran back to the front steps, where my little brother was waiting.
As Jimmy snatched his candy bucket from me, I saw them, watching us from the corner. It was the same group of older bullies that harassed us last year, on the night of the accident. Last time, they’d been wearing clown masks. They chose the Power Rangers this year.
Despite their masks, I could tell that those bullies didn’t quite believe what they were seeing. Jimmy had been presumed dead for a year, yet here he was, wearing the very same costume they’d seen him wearing on the night he went missing.
I’d had a growth spurt since that night. Rage and self-hatred did wonders for a growing boy’s physique.
Fueled by whiskey and a desperate urge to blame anyone other than myself for Jimmy’s death, I charged them. Outnumbered four-to-one, I took some shots, no doubt, but I routed them regardless, and I left one of them bleeding on the sidewalk, beaten nearly half-to-death.
Then I returned to Jimmy, smiling, and hooked my pinky around his before we set off to celebrate Halloween.
#
I sat on my couch, eyes trained on the flickering candle on my coffee table. The power had been out for a month and I hadn’t seen any good reason to turn it back on; I’d only be cutting into my meager booze budget and, besides, the city was kicking me out in a few days. The house had been bought and paid for by some long-dead relative then passed down to my parents as an act of pity. When Dad finally kicked the bucket, he left the house to me, but I was never quite able to stay ahead of the property taxes.
I wasn’t going to miss the place. It wasn’t exactly full of fond memories.
At this time of night, I’d normally be blackout drunk, but tonight was Halloween and I didn’t want to miss Jimmy. My entire life might have amounted to a hill of shit, but I’ve promised to never let my little brother down again.
I checked the time. Eight o’clock on the dot. I grabbed Jimmy’s Halloween bucket and headed out front.
Jimmy never did tell me why Halloween was his favorite holiday. He’d been a gentle kid, small for his age, fair-skinned and wispy. You wouldn’t have known it to look at him, but he preferred the schlock and gore of October grindhouse horror movie marathons to kiddie fare more appropriate to his age. He never flinched at the scary parts, when the reanimated undead wreaked havoc or dream demons emerged to slash open teenage throats.
I’d never attributed his love of Halloween to something so cliché as donning a mask to pretend to be someone else, though I wouldn’t have blamed him. No, I’d always suspected that Jimmy loved this time of year specifically because it was when the world went dim and happily embraced the horrific. Vampires and possessed dolls and werewolves made more sense than the more abstract horrors we faced at home.
Or, shit, maybe the kid just really liked candy.
I stepped outside and the riverwards were alive with grinning jack-o-lanterns, windows glowing orange and framed with fake spider webs, and scores of yuppie parents leading their kids door-to-door. I spotted him walking slowly toward the house. I swore, he got smaller every year.
I waved to him. He didn’t wave back, but he did cock his head slightly, as if he was struggling to remember who I was. As always, he was wearing the filthy sheet, soaked in river water. I felt a passing wave of revulsion and guilt when I glimpsed the faded bloodstains where the fabric hugged Jimmy’s misshapen occipital.
I smiled and offered him the bucket. Jimmy snatched it from my hand. Though there was only darkness within those crooked eye holes I’d cut into the sheet twenty-five years ago, somehow I knew that if he still had eyes, they’d have been gleaming.
I reached down to his hand, hooked my pinky around his, and I took my little brother trick-or-treating, like I’d done every year since he first returned.
This wasn’t our neighborhood anymore. Sure, the names of the streets were the same, but that was about it. The yuppie influx, with the ensuing rent increases and property tax hikes, had squashed out most of the old guard. The newbies didn’t care for the sturdy, century-old houses forged with brick and mortar. One by one, those stout homes were being flattened to make way for flimsier, but more stylish facades. Soon, our childhood home was going to suffer the same fate.
Jimmy must have sensed that something was amiss because he tightened his pinky around mine. Though I haven’t heard his voice since that night by the river, his pinky squeeze said enough.
It said, I’ve got you.
That was our private show of reassurance that helped sustain us through our childhood. When Mom wept at the dinner table as we split a dried hunk of welfare cheese for dinner, I’d give Jimmy a squeeze. When Dad staggered home drunk and started laying into Mom, I’d join Jimmy on his small twin mattress. We’d squeeze pinkies, eyes shut tight, with pillows over our ears so we wouldn’t have to hear Dad’s fist knocking against Mom’s head.
I’ve got you.
Tonight, we stopped at every house that still had its lights on. Our new neighbors smiled awkwardly, genuinely troubled by the sight of the neighborhood drunk escorting a child in a raggedy ghost costume. I didn’t give a shit what they thought as long as they tossed a few bite-sized Snickers bars into Jimmy’s bucket.
Soon, the streets began to empty and the trick-or-treaters went home. One by one, those grinning jack-o-lanterns went dark, those orange window lights dimmed, and it was just Jimmy and I wandering the lonely streets.
We headed back toward the house. This was where we would normally part ways, with Jimmy heading back on his own. Tonight, though, I remained at his side.
He cocked his head again, curious.
I squeezed his pinky.
#
Though I loved Jimmy, he was still my little brother and, often, I treated him as such. Just because I hated the neighborhood bullies didn’t mean I didn’t glean some pointers from their abuse. Sometimes, I’d slap Jimmy around or steal his toys because he’d annoyed me somehow. Other times, I just wanted to feel stronger than someone else.
The day of his death, Jimmy had put me in a particularly foul mood. Using the five-fingered discount, I’d gotten comic books from the drug store on York Street and I was looking forward to thumbing through them. Jimmy came rushing into our bedroom, crying because the rats had gotten to his hand-me-down Jason Voorhees costume. The critters had gnawed through the plastic hockey mask and left the (fake) blood-splattered overalls stinking like rat turds.
I told him to take it up with Mom and Dad, but he said Mom was passed out and Dad was at the bar, as usual.
My mood instantly turned black, not necessarily because of Jimmy, but because, once again, I’d have to pick up the slack for our parents. I cooked most of Jimmy’s meals. I scrubbed the stink off his clothes and got him ready for school every morning while Mom and Dad were off, drunk and doped. All I’d wanted was a night to myself, curled up in bed with some stolen comic books, but they couldn’t stay sober long enough to even give me that much.
Somehow, I kept my temper in check. I got him to stop sobbing by yanking the sheet off his bed, cutting out those mismatched eye holes, and draping it over him. “There,” I said. “You’re a ghost now.”
His green eyes were visible through the holes in the sheet. His cheeks perked up under the sheet and I could tell he was smiling.
“Can you take me trick-or-treating?” he asked.
No, I didn’t want to, but I also didn’t want him crying again and Mom would have beaten the shit out of me if I let Jimmy wander the neighborhood alone.
So we set out into the streets, amongst a legion of Ninja Turtles and Ghostbusters and Barbie dolls brought to life. Though it was simple, he enjoyed his makeshift costume. I was just hoping to get through the night without bumping into our enemies.
That was certainly naïve of me. It didn’t take long for them to zero in on us. There were four of them, all older boys. Even the smallest one towered over me.
They were wearing clown masks, thin plastic smiling red-nosed clowns that filled my stomach with dread. None of the parents milling about with their kids noticed the brewing confrontation, not with the dozens of trick-or-treaters clogging the sidewalk.
Jimmy clutched his candy bucket to his chest. One of the bullies reached for it, and that was when I snapped. I couldn’t help it. I might have been pissed off at him for dragging me out here, but this was Jimmy’s favorite night of the year. I couldn’t watch some assholes ruin it for him.
I swung, hard. My fist connected with the bully’s face and I heard a loud crunch right before blood trickled down from behind the clown’s visage.
I grabbed Jimmy by the wrist and we took off into the throngs of costumed kids. We rounded the next corner and disappeared into an alley.
We hid there, holding our breath as the bullies sped past. There was no way they were going to let this go. Two of them would likely roam the neighborhood looking for us, while the other two would lay in wait near our house.
“What are we going to do?” Jimmy asked, voice quivering in fear.
Every night, right before I blackout, I think about how I should have just squeezed his pinky.
But I didn’t. Instead, I blamed him. We wouldn’t have been in this trouble if he hadn’t been such a crybaby back home. That was why, of the dozens of places we could have gone to hide, I chose the river, because I knew he was terrified of the river.
#
Today, the Delaware riverfront was as gentrified as the rest of the neighborhood. A casino and towering condominiums loomed large and quaint pedestrian walkways were infested with pop-up beer gardens.
In our youth, the riverfront had been an industrial graveyard, dominated by long-shuttered factories with stretches of wilderness between them. Stinking sumac trees swayed overhead and plump river rats darted through the bushes.
This wasn’t the first time we had to hide back here. Jimmy always hated it. Although the neighborhood lay only a quarter-mile to the west, Jimmy thought the riverfront was too isolated. He feared that if our bullies ever caught us here, they could kill us and no one would ever know.
My mood hadn’t improved when we finally reached one of the piers, big gray concrete blocks jutting out fifty feet into the sloshing water, supported by a number of wood pilings underneath.
Jimmy remained a few feet behind me, still in his costume, nervously gripping his Halloween bucket. The tide was coming in and he jumped every time he felt a wave hit the pilings beneath us, as if the pier might collapse.
But what scared Jimmy the most was the possibility of falling into the water, that those rough green-brown waves might trap him under the pier, where he’d come up for air and smash his face against unyielding concrete instead.
“Can we just please try to go home?” he whined.
“No,” I snapped back. “Not unless you want those assholes to knock your teeth out.”
He lowered his head. “But I don’t like it back here.”
Looking at my whimpering little brother, I lost all sense of empathy. After running scared from our bullies, I was eager to assert myself as an alpha. I yanked him toward the edge of the pier.
“I’m so tired of you acting like a wimp,” I snarled. I shoved him closer to the edge, where the water sloshed violently ten feet below us. “There’s nothing to be afraid of back here.”
“I just want to go home,” he cried, the eye holes in the sheet now rimmed with tears.
“Stop being such a pussy!” I shouted then instinctively gave him a stiff right hook to the shoulder.
What happened next occurred within seconds, yet in my memory, it seems to play out for an eternity.
I’d hit him harder than I meant to. Jimmy dropped his candy bucket then staggered as his shoes got caught in the pool of fabric underfoot. I watched in muted disbelief as he flopped over the pier, arms waving, right before the back of his head cracked against the concrete edge.
There was a splash ten feet beneath me and my brother was gone, leaving behind nothing more than a red patch on the concrete and white bubbles breaking the water’s surface.
#
Pinkies locked, we maneuvered through condominium parking lots and empty beer garden stalls until we reached that old pier.
For a moment, my memories blended with the present and I saw myself, cold and shivering and soaked with river water, trudging back toward the neighborhood alone, clutching Jimmy’s candy bucket.
I remembered how cold and dark the river was when I dove in, fighting the waves, trying in vain to find my brother before finally giving up. I never told anyone what happened. That night, when I got home, Mom was still passed out and Dad hadn’t come back from the bar yet.
I hid my wet clothes then, later, told them that Jimmy had simply run away from me. I was terrified of what would happen if they knew the truth. There was a police search that amounted to nothing. Dad didn’t seem to care very much. Months later, Mom swallowed forty sleeping pills and never woke up.
I took to stealing swigs of Dad’s half-empty liquor bottles to soothe my guilt, a habit that had served me ever since. But even that relief has proved fleeting. As Jimmy and I walked along the pier, I tightened my pinky around his, content to die sober.
We stood at the edge of the pier. Though I couldn’t see his face, I could tell that he was no less afraid of the river now than he had been twenty-five years ago.
Jimmy stepped off the pier and disappeared into the water below. I wondered, once this pier was inevitably torn asunder to make way for a condo or another casino, would Jimmy still resurface on Halloween? If he did, and he ventured into the neighborhood, would he even recognize that the shiny new studio apartments were standing on the grave of our old house?
Either way, I was going to make sure that he didn’t go through it alone.
I stepped off the pier, just like Jimmy had that night. I cracked the base of my skull against that concrete lip. A lightning flash of pain shot across the world and I crashed hard into the water, pushed at once by the tide under the pier. A wave slammed me against one of the pilings and I felt something snap in my back and, when I tried to scream, filthy river water filled my mouth.
Yet, as I was thrashed about under the dock, my consciousness slowly fading, I felt Jimmy’s tiny pinky finger squeezing around my own.
I’ve got you.
#
That happened almost one year ago, last Halloween. Though I wanted nothing more than to slip into a watery slumber with my little brother, he must have felt otherwise. I woke up, weeks later, in a hospital. They removed patches of my skull to relieve the pressure from the brain bleed, courtesy of cracking my head on that concrete lip. My ribs had been shattered to splinters from the paramedics’ vigorous chest compressions.
They found me on the road, which meant Jimmy dragged me from the water, across the industrial wilderness, then out to the waiting blacktop. I asked the medics if there’d been a boy in a ratty ghost costume with me when they arrived. They said they hadn’t seen one.
Anyway, I’m writing this on the computer at the public library right off Girard Avenue, but I better finish up. The librarian is a real asshole. Doesn’t like it when street bums like me stink up the joint. It’s almost Halloween once again. Jimmy might not want me down in the water with him, but I’m going back to join him, regardless.
I’ve got his candy bucket, so we can hit the neighborhood one last time. I’ve also got a box cutter with the sharpest goddamn razors I could find. Once Jimmy slips back into the water, I’m going to open myself up – both wrists, then my carotid artery – and I’m jumping into that green-blue Delaware shitwater right along with him, because I’m Jimmy’s big brother, god damn it.
I won’t let him swim alone.

[Let's build] d100 events caused by magical manifestations/creatures/beings that happen in a Modern City.

Hey everyone! I'm trying to put together a game where my players will be apart of an organization that protects the human world (or really just the city they'll be playing in) from otherworldly/magical/etc. threats. The city seems to be a focal point for strange occurrences, magical creatures and beings, portals, etc. If anyone remembers Special Unit 2 from the early 00's, it's like that. (Man I loved that show.) And this is the map I'm using, just changing the name but the layout and places of interest are mostly staying the same.
Edit: Wow! Thanks guys! Totally didn't expect this to get as many as it did, this is a wealth of sidequests. Thank you so much! If you want to check out SU2 I'm pretty sure there are some episodes on YouTube. Its heavy on the cheese and it'll be really dated by today's standards but it was a good time.
  1. A connection to the Feywild has happened in one of the city parks. An elf finds his way through and finds it entertaining to enlarge small animals.
  2. Thieves have stolen an artifact from the history museum, reanimating a mummy in one of the exhibits.
  3. An unusual amount of sharks have been seen near the docks. Boats are being attacked by Sahuagin raiders.
  4. A surge of chaotic magic bursts and causes the creation of multiple Mephits. (Depending on location)
  5. An edgy teen visits a graveyard to perform a necromantic ritual. He doesnt know that the "spell book" he has actually contains an incantation that raises several undead and is now in over his head.
  6. A dead body found, torn apart, all signs point to someone summoning a low level demon and using it as the murder weapon.
  7. Somebody figured out how to brew love potions and now they are selling them on the streets.
  8. A portal to the elemental plane of water opened in the city's water supply. Now wild water elementals are pouring out of showers, sinks, and fountains.
  9. A skyscraper acquires an elemental spirit. The movements start off so subtle that they could be mistaken for the wind, but they become stranger and stronger with each passing day.
  10. Zoo animals begin take on dire traits and break out their enclosures.
  11. Goodberries become an invasive plant through runners, never flower, never fruit, just keep branching out.
  12. Turns out the royal family were lizardfolk.
  13. An a little person (Halfling arcane trickster) is hitting up all the casinos.
  14. A cleric poses as the second coming of christ, oh he also caused covid 19.
  15. An artificer constructing his own personal army of modrons.
  16. Strange events in a swimming pool, several people have died by drowning (Water Weirds).
  17. Rust monster moves into a construction site, eats and rusts the supports and the workers equipment.
  18. The Native American Thunderbird is finally spotted, its a Roc.
  19. Boogey man sighted by many families. An Oni is skulking between houses, looking for something or someone.
  20. Monsters take up residence in an abandoned circus. Medusa in the house of mirrors. Rakshasa tending to tigers. An ogre in the strongman tent. A hag in the psychics caravan.
  21. Kraken spotted near the mariana trench.
  22. Running of the bull - a famous giant bull statue is turned into a gorgon and roams the streets.
  23. A wizard has become a modern day frankenstein, constructing a flesh golem.
  24. The gargoyles of a famous landmark come to life at night.
  25. Duergar have been building tunnels in the underground and taking the tracks to increase their metal stores.
  26. A dryad protects a park after witnessing too many people littering in its home.
  27. A young shadow dragon takes offense at all the lights at night, ruining it's stealth and plans.
  28. Barlgura takes a woman hostage and climbs to the top of a skyscraper.
  29. A Bulette is reaking havoc on a nearby junction. The cars are disturbing its young.
  30. Some jackass decided to magically enlarge a chicken so he can have bigger drumsticks. The spell worked, in fact it worked too well. The chicken's the size of an allosaurus and is rampaging down town!
  31. The low income tenement housing is a blaze and the fire departments are having a terrible time putting out the flames ... largely due to the presence of an accidentally summoned fire elemental. Thankfully the elemental will return to the Plane of Fire in an hour when the spell ends.
  32. A real live dinosaur walks through the screen at a viewing of Jurassic Park.
  33. A few real zombies turn up in the middle of a walking dead (costume party / filming / LARP).

  45. An amusement park has to shut down the log flume and other water rides due to an infestation of water weirds.
  46. A subway tunnel collapses and traps a subway train after a portal opens and releases a Purple Worm into the tunnel, weakening the ceiling. Luckily another portal opened up soon thereafter and the purple worm was transported back to whichever fantasy world it came from.

Several Johns, and even a few Janes, have been found dead with no obvious cause, the only links between them is that they were all found in a state of undress, and they all had a look of horror on their faces. One of the prostitutes is actually a succubus in disguise, and she has been sucking the souls or her clients.

  83. If you were in NYC or Kentucky, a dragon has sniffed out the Federal Gold Reserves and is trying to make it his lair.
  84. When you’re in the metro system, which is naturally full of graffiti, one of the graffiti symbols lights up. It’s a rune that’s about to explode.
  85. The newspaper reports that every single McDonald's in the area has a working ice cream machine. It's deemed a miracle by many in the city. The newspaper credits it to hard-working corporate engineers who have perfected the cleaning and disinfection process. You, however, know the real reason. With some investigation, it turns out that the $1 $2 $3 dollar menu has a perfect storm spell coded into the registers. The codes for specific items, when entered in a specific sequence in a customer's order, are actually a conjuration spell that summons a Mimic, and, as we all know, Mimics have a fondness for soft serve.
  86. Lightning/Electric elementals have found junction boxes to be tasty snacks causing blackouts around the city. Remove them so the engineers can fix the grid.
  87. A minotaur has found the "Bull in a China shop" analogy to be racist and is now sitting in said shop and refuses to leave. The owner is distraught, and hesitant to say anything due to the red interior and the possibility of a fight breaking out. Remove the minotaur without causing any damage.
  88. Pixies have found photo bombing models to be the new prank for anyone that wants to be popular. Here's a net, catch them and give them an alternative to photo bombing.
  89. Vampires have been found in front of many Old Town homes, we believe that they are trying to either buy the home or enjoy the look of the neighborhood. In any case, the home owners want you to be there for protection while talking to the vampires.
  90. There are cultists holding rallies in the park. I need you to separate out the ones that can do harm and the ones that are less likely to be harmful. Also they need permits to do that so every one of them gets a ticket.
  91. Some wizard decided s/he was going to set up residence in the middle of the road. S/he said something about ley lines or some such being good there. Stop them from doing so and show them around town so they can find an alternative spot, they'll be a strong ally so work with them please.
  92. Ratmen have been found in the subway system. In order for the population to not explode, I need you to organize them to some degree. Find a representative that can speak for them and bring them here so we can talk.

Gambling time- oh look, you cheated in front of the manager. Well then...

Completely random prompt that I came up with for no reason except that I was bored and just watched a gambling anime. Here we go.
Semi-official prerequisites before you read on:
-Because this particular one is somewhat specific, being it's at a casino, you'll need a character that likes gambling (or just does whatever at casinos).
-Said character should (meaning 'does not need to') have a habit of cheating in casino games. Whether they're good or bad at cheating does not matter.
Okay, that's done, here we go.
You have decided to go out for the night at the local Aurum Casino. This casino chain is the largest of its kind in the Imperial Federation, with hundreds of properties across the galaxy. You arrive at the biggest branch, the one in the capital city of Anthos, excited to try your luck at the thousands of slot machines, gambling games, pool tables, arcade games, and more of what you'd find in a casino. In the Federation, most wealthier individuals play against each other in the popular game of poker, often betting billions while doing so. Tonight, the casino floor is particularly crammed with (still armed) soldiers celebrating another victorious battle, plenty of notorious gangsters (probably invited by Gold), and a lot of other influential people. You sit down at a poker table, and look at your three opponents.
The one next to you is Gold, the owner of the Aurum Casino chain, and nicknamed 'Casino Master' for his uncanny ability to remain virtually undefeated in every casino game. You remember him, don't ya? Kingpin, right hand man of Death, etc. See previous posts for more info on him. He's a legend at all sorts of casino games, pool, poker, blackjack, he's mastered the whole thing, despite having only the fifth highest IQ in the Elite Guard (and the whole Imperial Federation), at 209.
The second is Blake, who, despite being the Military Police Director (and thus Gold's natural arch-nemesis), still spends quite a bit of time at casinos trying (and failing) to beat Gold. Frequently loses millions of credits to Gold. IQ: 223, third highest IQ in the Imperial Federation.
The last is Intelligence Director Ruby, who, with an IQ of 233 (highest in the whole Federation), would be the so-called 'Casino Master' (thus taking Gold's spot) if it weren't for the fact that he prefers spending hours in his workshop and only comes to the casino when Gold (literally) drags him over. Doesn't mean he's dumb at card games, though.
You begin to reconsider playing against three of the smartest people in this country, but, thanks to your expertise, it's not much of an issue. You all throw in your bets, you betting a few million. You watch in astounded confusion as the others casually bet a few billion dollars, with Gold literally taking off one of his (various) exquisite rings and betting it. Here and there you pull a little trick, occasionally getting a glare from one of the other three. After Gold wins in a smashing victory (and Blake groans as he loses yet another few million), Ruby stands up, whispers a few things to Gold, and leaves without another word. After Blake follows Ruby out the door, Gold turns to you, with a smug look on his face.
And loudly proclaims, "Man, you must cheat a lot. And in front of me, no less!"
At which the crowd of people mingling on the casino floor falls silent and turns to stare at you.
Within this crowd are several of Gold's top henchmen, at least thirty Specialist Corps troopers (just think berserkers), a few mercenaries, and plenty of other people who aren't pleased to find you cheated in a game against Gold. You suddenly remember what happens to cheaters in the Aurum Casino.
What is your next move?

Ontario Stage 3 Reopening Megathread

As always this information comes straight from the official Government of Ontario's "Framework for Reopening Our Province". This is not meant to be a complete guide but only some information for a regular person to understand what's open and what isn't. This post will follow a similar format to the Stage 2 post. This post will be updated when new information becomes available, if any is missing please let us know. Please report any inaccuracies.
July 31st Updates:

Am I in Stage 3?.

  • All regions are in Stage 3.

What is remaining closed in Stage 3?

The Chief Medical Officer of Health, public health experts and other officials have advised the following high-risk places and activities are not yet safe to open, due to the likelihood of large crowds congregating, difficulties with physical distancing, or challenges maintaining the proper cleaning and sanitation required to prevent the spread of COVID-19:
  • Amusement parks and water parks
  • Buffet-style food services
  • Dancing at restaurants and bars, other than by performers hired by the establishment following specific requirements
  • Overnight stays at camps for children
  • Private karaoke rooms
  • Prolonged or deliberate contact while playing sports•Saunas, steam rooms, bath houses and oxygen bars
  • Table games at casinos and gaming establishments.

What are the new gathering limits?

Based on the advice of the Chief Medical Officer of Health and public health experts, gathering limits for regions in Stage 3 will increase. The gathering limit of 10 people indoors or outdoors will continue to apply for regions in Stage 2 until they enter Stage 3. Social circles should continue to be kept at 10 people province-wide, regardless of stage.
  • Indoor gathering limits will increase to a maximum of 50 people
  • Outdoor gathering limits will increase to a maximum of 100 people.
  • In all cases, individuals are required to continue to maintain physical distancing of at least two metres with people from outside their households or social circles.
  • All businesses, services and public spaces when hosting an event are subject to indoor or outdoor gathering limits and ensuring physical distancing can be maintained.
  • People at their place of work, including performers and crews, do not count towards gathering limits.
  • People gathering indoors for religious services, rites or ceremonies, and wedding ceremonies or funeral services, can continue to fill up to 30 per cent of the capacity of the particular room, as introduced in Stage 2.

When Do Gathering Limits Apply?

Based on the advice of the Chief Medical Officer of Health and other public health experts, gathering limits apply to higher risk settings and activities where people congregate, including:
  • All organized or spontaneous indoor and outdoor events and social gatherings(e.g., parties, fundraisers, fairs, wedding receptions, funeral receptions)
  • Casinos, bingo halls and gaming establishments
  • Concerts and live shows, including performing arts
  • Convention centres and other meeting or event spaces

  • Real estate open houses
  • Tour and guide services (including boat tours)
Now for some additional restrictions

Amusement Parks and Water Parks

Amusement parks and water parks are not yet permitted to open in Stage 3

Casinos and Charitable Gaming Establishments

  • Table games must remain closed.

Beyond Stage 3

The health and well-being of the people of Ontario will continue to guide every step of the government’s response to COVID-19. The success of Stage 3 will be critical for Ontario’s long-term economic recovery. As more businesses and activities reopen, the Chief Medical Officer of Health and public health officials will continue to closely monitor the evolving situation to advise when more regions can enter Stage 3, if public health restrictions can be further eased, or if they need to be tightened or reapplied.
With almost all businesses and public spaces reopening in Stage 3, Ontario has put enhanced case and contact management in place to quickly test, trace and isolate cases of COVID-19 to prepare for any future outbreaks, surges or waves. Just as important, people must continue to follow public health advice and workplace safety guidelines to keep each other safe. This is about treating each other with respect and taking personal responsibility, so that we can successfully beat COVID-19 and get on the path to a strong recovery.
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected everyone. As more of the province safely and gradually reopens, people are encouraged to support small businesses in their communities, shop local and look for products that are Ontario made. We are all in this together, and together we will emerge stronger than ever before.
The Ontario Spirit will continue to carry us forward as we work towards recovery and begin building a brighter and more prosperous future for every family, in every region of our province.

So live poker is finally back but hey wtf

I was playing some 1/2 in local casinos before it all started. Friday and Saturday night I was there, having great time, breaking even most of the times. Then the pandemic happened and I turned myself to online action, lost decent amount, went down on limits, started to read a little and in a few months was pretty confident playing 25nl. I couldn’t wait till casinos open since I realized if I’m ok playing 25nl I should be fine doing 1/2. So here it is, Lovely Borgata with 30 tables and 7 seats welcomes me back. I jumped at 1/3 and was pretty excited but after 50 hours in 5 days I was pretty frustrated. Live action kind of sucks, at least right now. All these guys just limp call, it’s always 4-6 ppl seeing the flop, you can’t really play ranges or position, you can only win if you have a hand. Then after losing this way it’s getting pretty tilting and the game is so slow it just doesn’t make sense to sit there for ages waiting for hand and losing it again to some random 85s. It’s funny cause I can’t really say how it was before since I put a lot of hours online and can’t really remember if I was playing just like they are now. Maybe 50 hours I spent at the tables isn’t enough to make any conclusion but I really can’t see myself doing it for more. Yes you can make a hand and shove nice pot once in a blue moon but sitting for ages and seeing 20 hands per hour seems just like a waste of time. I’m pretty positive 2/5 pool has better players where actions make sense but I don’t have bankroll to jump at those games. So yeah looks like online is a way to go at least for me and at least for now unless you guys have any idea or advice. Peace ✌️

My big fat Greek Covid-19 rant.

I am absolutely livid right now. And if I'm livid, it's time to be worried.
Story time.
When I first started in hotels, I was a total sweetie. I would procure cocoa for kids. I would overlook birthday parties if they were quiet. I would happily fetch someone a roll-away, deliver extra towels, plunge their toilet, etc.
I wanted to be the Hospitality Fairy.
But after Covid-19? No way. I am beyond done.
Our property was pretty "lucky" in the beginning of the pandemic. We closed completely for a few months, unemployment took good care of our team members, and when we reopened, we rarely flirted with 10% occupancy. Rates stayed mostly the same and we had lots of downtime to keep things clean and sanitized. Other than running skeleton crew, morale was okay.
Slowly but surely, however, The Locals decided that since they couldn't go on a cruise / to the casino / bar hopping / Mouse Land (lol), they were going to come trash our hotel. Not every local, but enough.
It didn't help that our rates dropped.
Occupancy climbed which was good for the billz, but not so good for our understaffed, stressed out, team. These rooms were consistently wrecked. Public space was a nightmare every day since we reopened the gym and pool. The amount of guest complaints, requests for amenities, noise violations, under aged drinking, drug deals, 'ladies of the night' and tomfoolery that is currently assaulting my quaint hotel is intense and it's fraying everyone's nerves.
And now? A group is staying with us. I want to note here the the Covid-19 cases have shot up recently here and are predicted to continue climbing due to July 4th.
So when I came in last night to see a packed lobby full of drunk parents I almost lost it. No social distancing. Zero masks. Shoulder to shoulder, crowded in front of the television, talking about an inch from each other's faces. Yikes.
I must have had a thunder cloud over my head because they scattered immediately as I punched in. We don't have a statewide mask mandate so all we can do is FIRMLY HINT that it would be a good idea to mask up.
Half an hour into my shift, the phone rings. Sweet guy from room 2006 says room 2007 is blaring music and yelling at the top of their lungs. Oh heck no. Not tonight, sweetums. I excuse myself from a nice conversation I was having with a regular at the desk, grab my keys and phone, and head up to second floor.
The elevator door slides open. I can hear 2007 from the goddamned elevator.
I was going to try and be polite (it was the weekend and maybe they just needed a gentle reminder of our quiet hours) but now I was upset. They were blaring music like it was Mardi Gras. No consideration for other guests.
I knocked on the door and the room went silent. They were trying to wait me out.
Nope.
I knocked again and announced that I was opening the door. Lo and behold, the door cracked open and I was greeted by a sheepish man in his early twenties.
I asked him, sugary sweet, how many guests were in the room. He lied, badly, and said four. I knew for a fact that I had personally watched a group of at least four girls go to his room when I arrived.
I gave him a Medusa look and told him that if the noise didn't stop -immediately-, they were leaving. If I received even one additional complaint against their room, they were gone. He nodded and shut the door.
You guys can guess what happened right?
I gave them five minutes and then went back up. Music had resumed at full volume and the merrymaking had commenced with renewed vigor!
Needless to say, they were told to leave and guess how many people streamed past me into the parking lot?
10.
10 people in a tiny hotel room with zero social distancing or masks. I had the decency to not call him out on his lie because they were leaving somewhat peacefully but man, I was furious.
I tell people CONSTANTLY, that we are NOT a party hotel, we are NOT built to host events and noise travels like CRAZY between rooms. We cater to business travelers and the occasional sports team and it works. I am beyond sick of locals.
Which neatly brings me to the end of my tale. Team morale at my location is pretty low. Nothing is getting done. Positions are getting swapped constantly to stretch hours. It's rough.
I am scared. A lot of folks think I'm a Debbie Downer because I attempt to keep an eye on the cases but if that's the cost of staying informed, so be it.
To every single one of you who are working right now during this clusterf*k pandemic, regardless of profession, I salute and relate to you with all of my cold, dead heart. ♥️
******* Edit ******* - - Whoa! This kind of blew up. THANK YOU FOR THE GOLD AND HUGZ! We are ALL in this Pandemic together and it makes me feel so much better to know you guys got my back.
ALSO a helpful Redditor pointed out that initially I wrote that our cases had doubled in the last few days. I phrased that incorrectly. Not our TOTAL cases (what a nightmare that would be) but our daily totals. AKA we went from 400~ cases to 900ish DAILY cases over a weekend. Sorry for any confusion!

“Welcome to the Gates Casino in Bellevue! We noticed you’re carrying a properly registered cyberdeck in compliance with all local regulations. We would like to remind you that when it comes to security at the Gates Casino, the house always wins. Thank you for your consideration, and please enjoy your stay.”
Action Report:
The team headed to the Gates Casino for a private game under the party Siberian Tiger. They spoke to Ms. J, who offered them 4k up front, and 4k for each embarrassing event they could do to sabotage a holiday seasonal party by a group of orks that had moved into her neighborhood. The team accepted and got the full details, then stuck around the casino doing a little gambling while the matrix folks did some searches.
Shadow ended up taking 2500 starting nuyen in gambling from the other runners, who lost their money to their teammate and the house. Floxxenbox and Mirai picked up a wealth of information on the house where the party was taking place and the members of the band. They produce thrash metal music emphasizing messages of weathering oppression, standing up to authority, and speaking out for the downtrodden. Lead Singer Crowbar (Alice Cross, oni subtype, mage), electric guitar Guillermo (Guillermo Rojo, heavy cyberware, decker, camera drones), bass and backup vocals Bootstrap (Danny Smith, personal cyberware), drums Lucky Eddy (Eddy Holland, social/physical adept). Members of the team started to express concern about messing with these orks, but a job is a job.
They drove down to Diamond Cove to scope out the mansion. Professor talked them past a very confused and accidentally racist KE gate guard. XX did an overhead flight while the matrix team dived the host and Shadow assensed the building and its inhabitants. They stole a few files from the host and the bands’ commlinks, adding themselves to the VIP registry for the event and digging up info on the catering services, fireworks, and most importantly a conversation among the band about the insufferable shrew that is Janet Pendergast. Janet was the one calling the shots for the Diamond Cove community in regards to holiday parties and social events. Piecing the parts together, they realized Ms. J (real name Lillian O’Hara) was actually out for revenge on Janet for stealing her seat as head of the party planning committee for Diamond Cove. The orks had got themselves in the middle of a Real Housewives of King County situation. They formulated their plan and waited for the party in two days, hopeful that they could go through with the job without messing the band up so much.
At the party, XX flew above as a bird. Mirai conked out in the back of Professor’s car. Professor, Shadow, and Floxxenbox joined the festivities. They found Janet in the back yard near the grill, trying to convince her high-class friends and neighbors that this party was a good and fun idea. First order of business, Operation Dirty Bird. Mirai hacked into the host and grabbed a feed from the camera nearest Janet. Mirai marked the target with an ARO of a toilet bowl, and XX dive bombed the unsuspecting woman. She ran to the nearest bathroom while Bootstrap pointed and laughed, drawing the attention of the crowd and enhancing the poor woman's embarrassment.
When Janet emerged fifteen minutes later with soaked hair, Floxxenbox messed with the sound check on the stage where the band was about to perform. Janet ran over to the technician, screaming at him to turn it down to a reasonable level. Shadow debuffed Janet with confusion, causing her to fail a composure roll and go full Karen 9000 on the technician and his sound controls. Flox flipped the house music to a special mix of the smooth jazz elf band Dear Molly. The message “Janet’s Favorites <3 Dear Molly” popped onto the backdrop display of the stage, and the entire party stopped for two seconds.
After two seconds of silence, pure outrage poured out of the mansion. Boos and jeers issued forth while Ms. J moved to the back of the house to see the product of her purchase. Janet fled toward the front of the house, deeply distressed at everything that was happening and lacking the mental faculties to deal with the situation. Professor followed Janet to the front of the house, plying her with drinks and encouraging words that she couldn’t leave now if she wanted to save face and show everyone how brave and capable she was. Thanks to the alcohol (and an ongoing confusion effect), it didn’t take much for him to bring her back into the fold just as the concert started.
Flox crowdsurfed the concert, taking a hefty jostling and several boxes of stun for her efforts, but it was totally worth it cause Mirai caught the whole thing on video. When the set ended, Lucky Eddy did his customary drum solo to close out the night, then jumped up to the front of the stage and screamed “Show’s over. Who wants to fight Lucky Eddy?”
Poor Janet, addled by booze and magic and bolstered by Professor’s pep talk, walked up onto stage without realizing her peril. Lucky Eddy cracked his knuckles, said “Oh, I’ve been waiting for this chance,” and picked Janet bodily up off the stage. Shadow dropped the confusion spell, and Janet came to her senses just long enough to understand what was happening to her as Lucky Eddy carried her down the docks and threw her into the lake.
Mirai and Shadow kicked into the final phase of the operation: Haunted House. Shadow summoned an air spirit to cast fear spells on a drunk trophy wife. She fell into the pool in her panic, leading to a scene. Mirai hacked the trideo, audio, and lights, creating spooky effects and yelling “Everyone run!” The party fell apart as XX added kiai to the mix, with high class socialites running for their cars and diehard fans of the band leaving, declaring it the best concert yet.
Mirai landed a nasty hit on Guillermo’s deck. Since he couldn’t find her, and there was weird technomancer shenanigans happening, he cut power to the entire house. The party dispersed with guests in various degrees of panic, and Ms. J was very pleased. Given that the team figured out her real vendetta was with Janet and took great pains to specifically embarrass the rival, she offered to extend their credit for the run if they wanted something from her store, Lillian’s Loyal Companions, and offered her services as a contact.

Understanding The Difference Between Motel And Hotel Real Estate Property

Understanding The Difference Between Motel And Hotel Real Estate Property
You might have thought about investing in motels for sale in your life. However, most people don’t know the difference between motels and hotels. Some use the names interchangeably. When you are traveling and far from home, you will need a place to stay. There are numerous options – bed and breakfasts, hotels, campgrounds, etc. but for most travelers, their cornice comes down to two main types of accommodation – motels and hotels. Each of these types of accommodation services has its purpose and has its price. The one that is better for you depends on your needs, how much you wish to spend and how long you will be there.

Definition of a hotel
A hotel comes from a French word for a business establishment that provides meals, lodging services and other services.
Definition of a motel
A motel on the other hand came along later after the hotel. It comes from the words motor and hotel. It is meant to describe a business establishment that provides some services associated with a hotel but not necessarily all the services provided by a hotel. Motels started as inns along the first major motorways. They offered rest to exhausted families on vacation and explores.
Architecture
Motels and hotels differ in construction and layout. Hotels can have hundreds of several floors and rooms. They generally have elevators, staircases and internal corridors leading to rooms. On the other hand, motels for sale online have one or two floors and guests can access their rooms from the parking lot directly. Some hotels exhibit specific styles of design and architecture.
Personnel
Motels and hotels employ different types of employees. Hotels might have concierges that offer dictions and advice to local sites, bellhops that carry luggage to guest rooms and so on. They might also employ housekeepers, chefs, doormen, parking valets and elevator operators. One or several managers might be on duty to supervise workers and help solve various problems. On the other hand, motels employ a comparatively small number of employees, typically housekeepers and receptionists. Small motels might have receptionists who perform laundry and housekeeping duties.
Services
Generally, hotels offer a wider range of services compared to motels. These might include an on-site restaurant, room service, and cocktail lounge, on-site recreation and relaxation, laundry, exercise equipment, masseuse services and hot tubs. Some hotels may double as resorts, offering extensive entertainment options to their guests such as theaters and casinos. Motels offer fewer services but some motels have breakfast and swimming pools.
Other differences
Hotels and motels for sale also differ in price and the duration of stay. Accommodation in hotels cost more than motels, though the location is a key consideration. A four-star hotel in a small city might cost less than a smaller motel in a more expensive area. There are a lot of things that affect the pricing of both hotels and motels. Some of these factors include the services offered, the location of the property, the duration of stay, competition in the area and more.

Some pictures of Miami Beach from the 1920s, and an article from the Miami Herald discussing a city crackdown on the Uber-before-there-was-Uber
The Miami Beach of the 1920s was a scarcely populated barrier island that would barely be recognizable today with one exception – Miamians were partying it up on South Beach. Actually, at the time, it was called Ocean Beach. Locals could relax on the sand or take a dive in the pools of one of the local casinos, such as Smith’s Casino (located near today’s 5th street), Hardie’s Casino, or the Roman Pools (located on Collins Ave between 22nd and 23rd Streets). No, there was not any gambling going on here (although there was plenty of illegal gambling elsewhere in the city). Back then, a “casino” was a public venue where people gathered for entertainment.

The photo above is an article written 100 years ago today in the Miami Herald. Miami was in the middle of a dispute that would be familiar to anyone who uses Uber or Lyft today. Back then, jitneys, which are private cars or buses for hire, would transport people to and from Miami Beach. Apparently, the city was attempting to require operators to be licensed. The article notes that many jitney patrons were upset at the measure, which reduced the number of jitneys and forced them to walk to the beach or stay home.

The three photos above show the Roman Pools.

You may notice a lack of Black people in these photos. This is because by the 1920s Black Miamians were prohibited from all public beaches. Prior to 1919, the only beach open to Blacks was located on the island we know today as Fisher Island, which was owned by local Black real estate mogul Dana A. Dorsey. In 1919, Dorsey sold the Island to Carl Fisher, and Black Miamians were effectively landlocked, prohibited from all public beaches, for another 25 years. It was not until Virginia Key Beach was established as a Black-only beach in 1945 after a series of local “wade-ins” and protests that the Black community could again legally access a public beach in Miami.

I Opened My Sister's Photoshop Files

When my sister Mary moved back into the house, it didn't sit well with my parents. She had moved out on her own for a year, and in that time had managed to blow every single penny at a casino. She claimed she would move out again, "Once she was back on her feet," but after eight months of her living with us, there seemed to be little hope of her leaving any time soon.
My mom and dad were desperate. They set up interviews, they forced her to job shadow, anything to get her a job. She was twenty-seven years old, and my parents were too old to be looking after her all the time. At my young age of thirteen, I wasn't able to move out, but I avoided being a nuisance.
Every day Mary would leave the house, normally very early in the morning. She would be gone all day. The only time I'd see my sister were at dinnertime, and that was it. After that, she would disappear into her room until she left again the next morning. Mary claimed to be spending all this time, "Networking," and "Searching for openings," but we all knew the truth; she was going to her boyfriend, Jeremy's place. None of us had seen Jeremy for a long time, as they never came over, but she would post pictures of them to her social media almost every day. They would be sitting on a bench at the park, or on a chair at the pool, or standing on the beach. In the standing pictures, Mary was always supporting Jeremy. He was leaning on her, arms around her shoulders. I learned to disregard her posts, as most of them were the same. However, I did notice that she had astonishing amounts of likes on her pictures. For some reason, I never seemed to picture my sister as, "popular," but it was a little strange seeing the hundreds of thousands of likes and followers she had.
A few times, I attempted to listen in on what Mary was doing in her room. I never heard anything interesting, just the sounds of her breathing and the trackpad on her laptop being clicked. During the day when she wasn't there, I didn't go into her room, as it was on the opposite side of our house from mine. On the rare occasion that I did happen to glance into her room, I didn't notice anything of interest, just some empty chip wrappers on the floor and several pictures of her and her boyfriend framed on her desk and nightstand.
I suppose I should tell you why I'm I'm explaining this to you. Well, I never thought much of any of her behavior until four o'clock one morning when I was aroused by the sound of the door slamming. It was unusual for me to be awoken by this. For one, I'm a deep sleeper, and on top of that, the door is on the complete opposite side of my house from where I sleep.
I slowly sat up, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. I checked the clock. 4 AM. I groaned. Thinking I could catch a glimpse of my sister, I climbed out of bed and walked down the hallway that snakes through our house. As I neared the front door, I noticed a soft glow emitting from Mary's room. I glanced over at the window next to our door. No sign of Mary.
I didn't intend to snoop. I was just planning on turning off her laptop for her. But as I walked up to her bed, I realized that she had left open her Photoshop Project Page. I thought about her social media pictures, and it made sense that she would touch up her photos before posting them online. The thought came to me that this was what she spent all her time doing, during the day holding a photoshoot with her boyfriend, and editing the pictures at night.
Curiosity overcame me, and I was suddenly tempted to look at some of her files. What harm could it do? They were just a few pictures she had taken of her and Jeremy, and all she was doing were little basic things, like color correcting and touching up little blemishes. Having recently become somewhat interested in photography myself, I figured looking through some of her Photoshop files would be a learning experience for me.
So, I sat down on her bed and placed her computer in my lap. I clicked on the first one, the most recently updated project, titled, "Park 3."
As I waited for the file to load, I took a look around her room. Most of it lay shrouded in darkness. I could see a posters on the wall parallel to myself, and on the floor a pile of trash. On the bed next to me lay a dirty, stained duffel back. It was closed up, but the smell coming from it told me I shouldn't open it. The whole room emitted a foul stench, a combination of rotted food and mildew on the walls. I didn't plan on spending a whole lot of time in her room, just a minute or so, allowing me to take a peek at the image.
Eventually, the file loaded fully. I looked at the picture. It was a shot of Mary and Jeremy in some park, Jeremy's arms wrapped around her as if she were supporting him. At a glance, the picture was rather normal. There didn't appear to be anyone in the background, just a dirt path that trailed into a patch of woods behind them. They both had almost unnaturally wide smiles plastered on to their faces. It seemed like a normal picture.
That was before I started to analyze Jeremy. Actually, half of him looked completely normal. From the waist down, no blemishes could be seen, just a pair of ripped up jeans and a generic pair of tennis shoes. The colors looked good and there didn't look to be any issues. I guessed that Mary was working on editing Jeremy before she was forced to leave, as he was half done.
The disturbing part was his upper half. If I zoomed in very much at all, I began to see it. An unmistakeable blemish. An enormous bloodstain. It soaked his shirt almost entirely. From a distance, you might think it was just the color of his shirt. But once you looked at it, you knew exactly what it was. I didn't know where so much blood could have come from. Was he wounded? Did he hurt someone or something? Was it just my imagination playing tricks on me? After all, it was quite early, and I had just woken up. Perhaps my eyes were messing with me, making me imagine something in the picture that wasn't really there.
That was what I thought, at least, until I examined his face. It too, was splattered in blood. Not as much of it, but still very noticeable. It was also caked in what looked like mud or dirt. His cheeks were sunken in and his hair, which from other pictures seemed to be flowing, full, and blonde was now stringy and tangled, more like the color of soiled milk than anything else. But none of that was as disturbing as the eyes. They were cold, lifeless, as if he were staring off into space. From Mary's finished pictures, Jeremy appeared to have bright blue eyes, cheery and full of life. But here, they were less saturated, more dead than alive. They were a milky white color, glazed over in a way that made him look like a zombie.
Mary herself seemed to be fine. She wasn't perfect in the picture, the colors weren't as good as they normally were and there were a few scuff marks on her jeans. I was certain that she hadn't done any editing to herself yet.
I wanted to believe that this was all fake, just a creepy makeup job. But it wasn't anywhere near Halloween, and it all seemed too strange, too unfinished. She was clearly trying to hide Jeremy's issues with Photoshop.
I only had a few memories of my sister's boyfriend, and most of them were fuzzy at best. It had been years since he'd come to our house. The clearest memory I had of Jeremy was of him showing me a camera drone that he had just bought. I remembered feeling somewhat envious, as I didn't have anything like that. I remember begging him to let me fly it, and I accidentally steered it into a tree. It got a little dent, and Jeremy was furious. After that, I could recall anything else, but I could sill remember his appearance. He truly did have luscious blonde hair. His cheeks were full and rosy, not sunken and decaying. His eyes were crystal blue and not a milky white.
I exited out of Park 3 and opened up one called Beach 5. Again, only partly finished. The bloodstain was less pronounced, but still obvious. His face was cold and lifeless.
Then, another memory came to me, one that I had completely forgotten. I remembered the morning paper. I was reading through the obituaries, wondering if anyone I knew had died. I came across one. At the time, I refused to believe it was true. But now, I know it was. Jeremy West, age 30. Murdered mysteriously. They had found his body in a dumpster somewhere in town and had buried him in the local cemetery after a fairly informal funeral.
The police claimed that he had been beaten to death, but they weren't sure what with. There was also no evidence as to the killer themselves. It was all a mystery. Now, looking around the room, things seemed more menacing. Suddenly, the room smelled like decaying bodies. I could even see small bloodstains on the sheets that could easily be mistaken for ketchup stains.
I slammed the laptop closed and took a few deep breaths. There had to be a rational explanation for all of this. Maybe it was a different Jeremy that I'd seen in the obituaries. Maybe it was my overactive imagination that caused me to see those things. Every possible situation flew through my head at the speed of light, but none of them were right. I knew it. I don't know how I knew, but my mind wasn't playing tricks on me, and that was definitely the same exact Jeremy that was in the obituaries. That was my sister's boyfriend, dead. It made so much sense now; her strange behavior, the way she seemed to be supporting him in all the pictures....he was dead. But that arose a more nightmarish question. Who had killed him? Had my sister dug him up out of his grave, or did she kill him so that she could keep doing those photoshoots?
Then, the silence that penetrated the room was shattered. I heard the sound of the door slowly swinging open, creaking on its hinges. A few soft footsteps followed, along with the sounds of my sister saying, "I can't believe I forgot the laptop!"
In a moment of sheer panic, I dove under the bed. I hoped that Mary would just grab her laptop and leave. Then maybe I could run for help and tell someone about this. As I scooted further under the bed, my leg with something. A shovel. Covered in dirt and blood. I shivered. My sister padded quietly into the room. The only thing I could see of her were her feet. They walked slowly and deliberately to the bed, where she grabbed her laptop. Then, she opened it. Mary typed on a few keys, inputting her password. Then, I watched as she stomped on the ground in a fury.
"I know I didn't open that. Who on earth has been tampering with my files?" her voice was enraged, full of absolute hate. She stomped off out the room, but I wasn't sure exactly which direction she went.
After a few moments, I prepared my escape plan. I would crawl out the room, into the laundry room, and out through the laundry room window. After that I could hide out until daybreak, when I could tell mom and dad. As I readied myself to make my exit, I took another look around the room. Now that I knew about my sister, the whole room seemed more menacing.
Then, I heard them. Footsteps coming back up the hall. I froze. Now what? What if she found me? I stayed where I was, listening to her rapid advance. As she entered the room, I stopped breathing. from the position i was in, I could see that she was holding something. A garbage bag.
I watched in complete terror as she bent down, slowly. Her face soon became parallel with mine as she stared straight in her face. Mary's expression was a look of complete insanity. A mix of joy and anger. My sister was truly mad.
I couldn't move. I couldn't breathe. I couldn't scream.
But then, something strange happened. Something I can only describe as a miracle. Mary's eyes swiveled around slowly, examining the area under her bed. I buried my face in the shag rug, wondering if she had actually seen me.
She reached out. I squeezed my eyes shut. There was no possible way that she hadn't seen me. Her hand continued to extend, past me, and toward the shovel. She grabbed it and pulled it out from under the bed. It brushed against the back of my shirt as it was pulled out.
I carefully turned my head to see my sister stroking the shovel, and saying,"It's time to see Jeremy again!"
With that, she turned and exited the room.

Dear 888 family,
November was a really busy month for 888 team. 2020 is almost over and we are in rushmode to reach all goals we had planned out at the beginning of the year. We were focused to deliver a reward model and connect fiat payments.
Recently authorities from EU and CIS countries became very strict with payment companies processing gambling payments as there are many violations and law infringements made by unlicensed casinos. Huge fines were issued and many payment companies went down and other lumbersome bureaucratic implementations and laws made it really difficult for us to find the right partners to process our payments. I am sure you have noticed that these problems were experienced by all major online gambling platforms.
Anyways November was very successful for 888starz. Please find all info about our mutual achievements below.
What we have achieved in November: ➢ We had several meetings and further negotiations with industry leaders in the gambling industry to make sure 888starz will offer all the best content the sector has to offer.
➢ We sealed the deal with our first TOP30 cryptocurrency exchange to launch 888token paired with BTC, ETH and USDT. Together with the exchange promo team we are working on a campaign to introduce 888token to its millions of customers worldwide. Listing date has been set on January 25th 2021.
➢ We continued the work to upgrade 888tron.com with the DEFI feature (Decentralized Finance). This feature will introduce 4 tokens and will add extra ways for people to generate profit, add token liquidity on the markets and will make 888 token price less volatile.
➢ Devs continued their further coding of the new back office to attract online traffic more efficiently, analyse platform operation, make payments to partners and accept crypto and fiat payments from gamers.
➢ Added more SLOT PROVIDERS taking the total number of slot providers to 72.
➢ Added more LIVE CASINO PROVIDERS taking the total number of providers to 16.
➢ CEO, CFO and core team members are already preparing the visit to SIGMA Malta which was first scheduled for February 2021 but has been postponed to April 2021.
➢ Mastercard deposit and withdrawal option was added.
➢ Skrill digital wallet option was added.
➢ Neteller prepaid solution was added.
What is next in December

  4. Legal department will continue to work on local licenses.
  5. Focus on affiliate marketing campaigns for 888starz.
  6. Focus on marketing and promotion of 888token listing event.
Financials
From a financial standpoint, November was a good month for 888tron and 888starz.
888tron.com total dividend pay outs were over 3,624,900 TRX (~116,000 USD). Which is an average of ~5,9 USD per 1000 tokens per month.
888starz.bet Total bet – EUR 215,034 / Total Paid out 199,290 GGR - EUR 15,744. Total expenses was EUR 15,659. Net profit + EUR 1084,47 (+ 1,312 USD). These funds will be added to the reward pool and will be distributed among ALL 888token holders on January 15, 2021.
Final thank you
We are looking forward to 2021. We have a lot of things planned for next year. While some of our competitors are slowing down or have hit a dead end, we have only just started and the best is yet to come! One token economy is the best and only way to succeed! Thx for your loyalty, patience and support.
